About Herts Cyber
An independent, volunteer-run community for cyber security in Hertfordshire.
Why we exist
Hertfordshire has good sources of cyber security support, including the Eastern Cyber Resilience Centre, BCS Hertfordshire and the University of Hertfordshire. What it didn't have was a regular local place where security practitioners and the businesses they protect could meet. Herts Cyber fills that gap.
What we stand for
Impartial. No selling from speakers or organisers, ever. Talks are vendor-neutral.
Open to everyone. Beginners, business owners, students and seasoned professionals are all welcome.
Free. Meetups cost nothing to attend.
Local. Built around the organisations, threats and people of Hertfordshire.
Who runs it
Herts Cyber was founded by Don, a Hertfordshire-based IT and cyber security professional, and is run by volunteers.
Herts Cyber is an independent community group. It isn't affiliated with Hertfordshire County Council, the UK Cyber Security Council or any company.
Sponsors
Meetups are free to attend. Sponsors help cover costs such as room hire and refreshments.
In return they're thanked on this site and at events. Sponsors don't get speaking slots, attendee contact details or any say over what's covered, and the no-selling rule applies to them like everyone else.

Code of conduct
Everyone at our events and in our online spaces agrees to the following.
- Treat everyone with respect. Harassment and discrimination of any kind are not tolerated.
- No selling or recruiting pitches. Talking about your work is fine; pitching it is not.
- The practitioner session runs under the Chatham House Rule: use what you hear, but don't identify who said it or which organisation it relates to.
- No live hacking of anything you don't own or have permission to test, including the venue's Wi-Fi.
- Don't photograph or record other attendees without their agreement.
If something makes you uncomfortable, speak to an organiser on the night or email hello@hertscyber.org. We'll deal with it promptly and in confidence. Organisers may ask anyone who breaks these rules to leave.
